Scouting the Brunswick-Coburg area for the location of a scene in a funeral parlour, the crew of SBS's crime series Carla Cametti PD could scarcely believe their luck. Not far from a supermarket where they filmed, they came across the perfect parlour.
"Nothing we saw beforehand fitted the bill," says Melissa Dunstone, the series' location manager. "We did not want a traditional, cliched funeral parlour, and then we found this fantastic location."
The location, Victoria Funerals, in Victoria St., Brunswick, is managed by Maria Stamelos who, with her husband Chris, converted the former wedding reception venue into a stylish modern parlour.
The series stars Diana Glen in the lead role, with Underbelly heavy Vince Colisimo as a cop and love interest.
Dunstone, now in Sydney working on UnderBelly Two, says she's amazed at the cooperation by the parlour owners, who committed to a whole day of filming.
Featuring as the fictional Veneto Brothers, the parlour is in episode three of the six-part series, screening on Thursday, January 22.
